    Exclamation Conficker worm is set to explode on the 1st of April

    Dear All,

    Please note that the Conficker worm is set to explode on the 1st of April.
    Microsoft has posted, KB’d and alerted on this issue, there are now an abundance of resources explaining how conficker works.
    FCS, OneCare detect and clean all variants of Conficker. However, it’s critical to understand how Conficker works and how it keeps trying to spread.

    What is the purpose of this alert?

    This alert is to notify you that Microsoft has published new resources regarding the Conficker Worm on February 6, 2009. These resources aim to help customers by providing consolidated information about Conficker that customers can use to protect their systems and with which to recover systems that have been infected.



    Summary



    Based on customer feedback, Microsoft has developed a central location for both consumers and enterprises for all consolidated information regarding the Conficker incident. We have notified our partners of this information and encourage them to distribute to their customers.

    Dear All,
    I read most of related subjects around the worm.
    The steps should be taken are:
    1. Update important and critical windows updates.
    2. Update antivirus database.
    3. Install the security update (KB958644).
    Security Bulletins:
    MS08-067




    4 .Disable Autorun from group policy (optional).

    Dear All,

    Regarding to my position as a senior security system administrator in my company we take some steps against this virus.

    1) Install the security update (KB958644)
    2) Install Kaspersky antivirus and update it to the latest update.

    That's all


    Hamdo Lellah .... Nothing happen.

    What are the effects of this Virus?
    It turns off and disables some Windows security and Automatic Updates services.
    It steals administrator password.
    It downloads malicious files to the victim machines such as worms and backdoors that may harm your PC.

    How can I check that my home PC is not infected?
    Check that the Microsoft security Patches are up to date on your home PC. This following link will guide you to detailed steps (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com)
    Make sure that your home PC has updated antivirus software
    Close any open shares on your home PC
    Run regular full antivirus scan on your home PC

    My PC is not infected what should I do as preventive actions to avoid infection?
    If the Microsoft security Patch “MS08-067” is not installed on your home PC, download and install it from the following link: (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../MS08-067.mspx)
    Change your administrator password and any other accounts' passwords on your home PC to complex ones
    Disable the Autorun feature in your home PC that allows CDs or flash memories to run automatically. The following link will guide you to detailed steps: (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126025)
    Remove any unnecessary sharing files / folders or at least remove the full / write permissions on the sharing
    Delete any mail from an unknown sender including any attachment files
